London Design Festival x Interior Design Declares
17 September 2025

Interior Design Declares joins London Design Festival to spotlight circular, regenerative design in action. Featuring David Chenery (GAIL's), Nina Woodcroft (Nina+Co), and Erika Suzuki (The Greenest House), the event explores how the IDD pledges are shaping climate-conscious interiors.

As part of London Design Festival 2025, Interior Design Declares (IDD) presents a dynamic event highlighting regenerative and circular approaches in interior architecture.

The session is hosted by Humanscale, the leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance ergonomic products that improve the health and comfort of work life. As a certified B Corporation, Humanscale is recognised for its planet positive manufacturing, they will share how circular design has transformed its development process—from materials and production to disassembly and reuse.

This event features three design leaders and a pioneering client:
David Chenery and Michelle Pollard-Smith - GAIL’s, Nina Woodcroft, and Erika Suzuki—whose work demonstrates the key actions of the Interior Design Declares Pledge.

David Chenery
Founder, Object Space Place | IDD Signatory

Project: GAIL’s

David leads sustainable hospitality design through his studio Object Space Place, using the Restorative Design Framework to embed circularity, reuse, and whole-life carbon thinking in each project. His work with GAIL’s Bakery exemplifies this approach—minimising waste and material use while creating adaptable, low-impact spaces.

David is joined by a client from GAIL’s, who will share how sustainability has become core to the brand’s ethos. Together, they demonstrate IDD pledges in action: raising awareness, collaborating across disciplines, and evaluating projects based on environmental impact.

- Nina Woodcroft
Founder, Nina+Co | BIID Sustainability Award Finalist | IDD Signatory

Projects: Silo | Nina’s House

Nina integrates regenerative design and ethical sourcing across commercial and residential interiors. Her project Silo — the UK’s first zero-waste restaurant — and her own home — a deep retrofit prioritising natural materials — material transparency, and local making can coexist with refined aesthetics.

Nina’s work reflects IDD principles such as:
Product sourcing with environmental certification
Raising awareness of the climate and biodiversity emergency
Advocating for inclusivity, collaboration, and equity.

- Erika Suzuki
Founding Director, Office Ten Architecture | Architecture Declares Signatory

Project: The Greenest House

Erika is an architect working at the intersection of climate action and social equity. Her project, The Greenest House, investigates how upgrading existing homes—rather than building new—offers a powerful, low-carbon solution to the housing and climate crises.

A signatory of Architecture Declares, Erika’s approach addresses several IDD pledges:
• Evaluating whole-life carbon
• Demanding transparent, sustainable product sourcing
• Promoting diversity and inclusion in practice and impact

Interior Design Declares: A Pledge in Practice

Interior Design Declares is part of the Built Environment Declares network of declarations, started in 2021, inspired by Architects Declare. Each signatory commits to:
• Raising awareness of the climate and biodiversity emergency
• Driving regenerative design approaches
• Sharing knowledge openly
• Evaluating projects using whole-life metrics
• Advocating for inclusivity, collaboration, and equity
• Demanding transparent, sustainable product sourcing

By spotlighting how these pledges are applied in real projects, this event celebrates the designers, clients, and manufacturers who are leading the shift toward a more sustainable built environment—starting now.

IDD BIRTHDAY SOCIAL Monday 18th March, 3-6pm
18 March 2024

In April 2024 we gathered over 70 people for our 3rd Birthday Social at The Building Centre, London, in their gallery space. John Bonning, director of the Building Centre, highlighted its history and role in promoting innovation within the building sector.

Our Founders, Cat Hoade, Chloe Bullock, Simone Suss, Jecks Stone, and Ana Rita Martens celebrated our progress over 3 years, including speaking at trade fairs and increasing our membership to 300. Chloe Bullock spoke about her book published for RIBA Publishing, 'Sustainable Interior Design'. Oliver Heath presented on Biophilic design, followed by questions from the audience, including contributions from Vanessa, editor of 'The Biophilic Journal'. Mathew Freeman updated us on the FR campaign, focusing on furniture sustainability. Helen Gordon of Kite Creative and Emer Gillespie of Spark & Bell discussed challenges from a supplier perspective, aiming to use local, natural and recycled materials to prevent waste and increase community awareness.

It was great to gather and meet some of our signatories. Thank you to all who joined us. Special thanks to Rosey Treherne Pollock for securing the venue, catering and organising the event along with the IDD Events working group.

Introduction to the Architects Declare Practice Guide 2021
26 November 2021

Join us to learn more about how the new Architects Declare Practice Guide helps your practice act on the climate & biodiversity emergency.

Hear from the team who produced the guide, which we launched at the RIBA & Architects Declare Built Environment Summit on 29th October, ahead of the start of COP26. We created the guide to help Architects Declare signatories convert their declaration of climate and biodiversity emergency into meaningful action and build momentum within their practice.

Part 1 is a Practice Roadmap that provides 5 simple steps to transform your business. Part 2 is the Project Design Guide focused on the fundamentals of truly sustainable design and demonstrated through exemplars.

This one-hour online event (9.30-10.30, Friday 26th November) will provide an overview of the guide’s purpose and intent and summaries of each of the chapters, followed by a Q&A session.

Tickets are by donation. You can give as little or as much as you wish. Your donation will greatly support the work of Architects Declare in its running costs and developing its programme to support signatories through initiatives such as the Practice Guide. The guide is available as a free download here.

You can register for the event here.
